Features
and Benefits |
 |
Victoria is built on programmable
hardware and firmware, this allows you to keep your unit up to date. This
design also makes it easy to configure all your electrical and optical
interfaces using just 2 connectors.
We
have paid special attention to the optical connectivity by including most
connectors and wavelengths. Thanks to its dual transmitter, any combination
of 1550 and 1310nm transmission/reception is available in one instrument.
-
Functions, the Macros
enable automatic, pre-programmed measurements with the press of a button.
The Autoconfiguration detects the whole signal structure. Fastscan
explores the alarms and errors in the synchronous tributaries.
-
Touch&Play ©,
the simple syntax and the touch screen offer you the most natural and efficient
user interface on the market.
-
A rugged hand-held,
Victoria is fitted with a rubber boot to provide the best protection possible.
Its small size and light weight makes Victoria a handy instrument, especially
suited for field and factory work.
-
SoftLEDs ©, with
10 tricolor LEDs identified on screen, up to 100 events can be displayed
simultaneously.
-
Downloading, all models
of Victoria include a serial port for remote control, to connect to a printer
or to export results to a PC to process with spreadsheets or text processors.
-
Modes On all the interfaces
Victoria operates in Termination, Through, and Mux/Demux modes, as well
as In-Service and Out-of-Service Measurement.

Applications |
 |
Powerful and
easy to handle, Victoria is the ideal tool for work in both exchange and
central office environments, and also out in the field. It replaces the
previous generation of portable devices that surpass Victoria only in bulk,
weight and difficulty-of-use. Victoria is the only test and measurement
instrument you will need for any task from installing fiber to preventive
maintenance:
Testing
Network Elements (NE)
Before they are connected,
multiplexers must pass mux/demux tributary tests and M/N stress tests that
activate the generation of errors and alarms. Their behaviour when faced
with offsets, G.783 pointer sequences and a change in the reference clock
must also be studied.
Stressing ADM multiplexers
by means of frequency offset
Victoria can generate frequency
offset on the tributary side in order to check pointer adjustment mechanisms
on multiplexers. Pointer adjustments translate into wander, and this into
jitter at the tributary output. Jitter is one of the main causes of error
in SDH and SONET networks.
Commissioning
Next, the network elements
and transmission media are connected together to form the topology of the
transmission network. This is when the transport of end-to-end circuits
through the network must be validated. This is done by means of a series
of tests, such as BER test in VCs, RTD, transparency tests for all RSOH,
MSOH, POH bytes and trail trace in J0, J1 and J2.
Service
Level Agreement (SLA)
Operators must guarantee
their customers a certain level of quality for the services they offer,
both in terms of performance (G.821, G.826, M.2100 and M.2101) and unavailable
time when faced with a breakdown that provokes APS (Automatic Protection
Switching).
Internetworking
Applications that make use
of several networks in tandemare becoming common. When a breakdown occurs
or there is a deterioration in quality, the cause must be identified using
TCM
Preventive maintenance
Centres with groups of experts
perform long-term ISM measurements. With Victoria they will have specialized
screens, graphs and traces at their disposal showing all the alarms, errors
and pointer movements that occur. They will also be able to evaluate wander,
the prime cause of errors, by means of TIE measurements.
Synchronization
Network
The Victoria frequency deviation
function allows to stress clocking systems to quickly identify deficiencies
in the synchronization network. Most of the problems during installation,
commissioning or maintenance of SDH/SONET equipment and networks are due
to lack of synchronization, clocks out of range, etc. This is the reason
why synchronization is one of the most important parts of any SDH/SONET
network. Synchronization uses clocking sources generated from clock equipment
which distributes clock, and the embedded clock blocks of any transmission
network.
